Take a look inside our Nitrogen Real-time Operations Center

Imagine if you could be working in 10 different places at once – efficient, right?

This is a reality at Nutrien, thanks to the Nitrogen Real-time Operations Center (NROC). Located in Loveland, Colorado, this operations hub is helping to monitor, troubleshoot and optimize our 10 major nitrogen production facilities across North America and Trinidad.

“We’re leveraging the power of collaboration between our operations, engineering and digital technology teams,” says Trevor Williams, EVP and President, Nitrogen and Phosphate. “By sharing knowledge, data and new ideas across our network, we’re able to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of our operations.”

NROC in action

Earlier this year, the team at our Fort Saskatchewan Nitrogen facility was discussing ideas for plant optimization. They reached out to Adeyinka Opadeyi, Senior Engineer and NROC Operator, who performed a review of the site remotely from the operations center.

“The NROC is allowing our teams to become more predictive,” he says. “It enables early collaboration and decision making, thereby creating substantial value for the business.”

Adeyinka provided detailed, real-time observations and recommendations for the team at Fort Saskatchewan to help improve the site’s operational performance, efficiency and safety.

“This is a great example of how plant optimization is served by NROC and highlights the connection between technology and collaborative teamwork,” says Edmond Thompson, Vice President, Engineering, Technology and Capital. “I’m proud of how our teams are working together, embracing technology and integrating data to help improve our operating facilities.”
