Annual Borger holiday project is making spirits bright in the community

At Nutrien’s Borger nitrogen facility, the team’s spirit of giving is shining bright this holiday season. Each year, the site organizes the Angel Tree Project – a volunteer initiative to gather and deliver necessities and holiday gifts for children and elderly folks in the community.

“When we kicked off the project this year, we could never have imagined the response we would receive,” says Jimmy Brown, Instrumentation & Electrical Planner. “To say we were overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity is an understatement. Nutrien personnel, contractors and our parts and services vendors all eagerly stepped up. What an amazing group of people that we’re honored to work with every day.”

Borger has been coordinating the Angel Tree Project for 24 years. This year, the team introduced some friendly competition among the four operations shifts, and ‘A Shift’ claimed the victory with a combined total of $500 in contributions.

In total, the site raised more than $8,000, ensuring that 24 kids and 7 elderly folks have a brighter holiday season. This was a big jump from 2023 – with a 55 percent increase in money raised and an additional 13 community members supported.

Each of the children received a new bike, school-appropriate outfits complete with a pair of shoes, holiday toys and a few sweet treats. The elderly folks received items such as pajamas, socks, house shoes, shampoo and lotion, with the cozy addition of blankets and tins of butter cookies.

“This is an outstanding achievement, and it’s a direct result of the giving spirit of everyone involved,” says Melissa Sargent, Maintenance Scheduler. “Everyone at the site helped make this year's project a massive success, and we couldn't be prouder. Together, we’ve raised the bar, and we can’t wait to see what we can accomplish next year!”

The Borger team’s dedication to spreading joy during the holidays is a testament to our Culture of Care and how we care and look out for each other and our communities.

“Our employees, contractors and vendors truly shine as the kindest and most generous folks around,” says Kelley Payne, Talent Attraction & Community Relations Advisor. “It’s amazing to work with such an incredible group of people at a fantastic company.”
