Blending agronomy and marketing in unique roles at Nutrien
At Nutrien, volunteering is woven into the company culture through the Grow Our Community (GOC) programs. Eligible employees across Nutrien’s global footprint are empowered to spend up to three days each year volunteering during work hours, through the Employee Volunteer Program. Not only does this foster community connection, but the Employee Matching Gift Program also recognizes volunteering done after-hours, with the ability for employees to earn up to $500 per year to donate to causes in the community.
“There are many ways we can give back to our communities, and at Nutrien, we believe volunteering is one of the most impactful,” said Ken Seitz, President and CEO. “When our employees step out to help where they can, it’s not just a responsibility—it’s also an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone involved.”
In 2024, Nutrien employees spent almost 25,000 hours volunteering in their communities, 3,500 of those were done during work hours. Through these programs, Nutrien employees can make tangible differences—from caring for sheltered animals and supporting food banks, to mentoring youth and participating in community clean-ups. Employees say that volunteering fills their cup, strengthens their teams, and makes them proud to work at a company that invests in its communities.

Amy Crozier
Amy’s career as a Senior Marketing Representative at Nutrien began almost three years ago and she brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. She has been in the agronomy industry for nearly 20 years while also working alongside her husband on their dairy and grain farm in Alberta, Canada.
“Being in the industry and having a farm gives me a unique perspective of the challenges on the ground, market trends and overall farm management,” says Amy. “Working at Nutrien, I have a broad understanding of what is impacting the fertilizer industry, and being connected to the farm community, I understand firsthand what is impacting the grower.”
Supporting customers and growers is a key part of Amy’s day-to-day work, and understanding their regional needs and differences is essential for her as a trusted advisor.
“Canadian agriculture is a diverse market with a range of soil types, crops and environments, and in Alberta, you can experience all four seasons in the same week,” she explains. “The weather here – a mix of late-May frosts and humidity – often keeps the first six weeks of the planting season busy, both at our Retail facilities and on the farm.”
Amy’s agronomy background helps her target Nutrien’s marketing to meet the needs of growers.
“Our goal as an agronomy and marketing team is to be the go-to resource for fertilizer knowledge,” she says. “We are continuously building content for our retailer toolbox and eKonomics website and presenting at industry events, and I recently travelled across the prairies to help educate growers about Nutrien’s wholesale fertilizer offerings, including ESN Smart Nitrogen, potash, Smart Nutrition MAP+MST and different types of sulfur products.”

Dustin DeMoss
In his role as a Senior Marketing Representative, Dustin combines his agronomic knowledge with his sales and marketing skills to bring value to retail sales personnel, customers and growers. He provides marketing tools, fertilizer advice and product recommendations, and collaborates with Nutrien’s Sales team to optimize customer experience.
“Each day, I provide education about the importance of applying, maintaining and managing optimum fertility levels in the soil,” says Dustin. “I work to ensure that customers have access to the knowledge, tools and fertilizer products that Nutrien offers so they can inform growers about proper agronomic and fertilizer recommendations.”
Based in Iowa, US, Dustin works to help both local and national growers and retailers meet nutrient and fertilizer demand.
“Farming practices differ quite a bit in the southern part of the state in comparison to the northern part, and Iowa is the number one state for corn production and number two for soybean production,” he says. “Iowa is full of opportunities and Nutrien’s fertilizer products are helping growers and retailers in Iowa and across the US take crop yields to the next level.”
As a former retail digital agronomist, Dustin also knows the increasingly important role that technology plays in supporting growers.
“In the agriculture industry, we have seen major technological advances in the last several decades, and technology continues to get better each year,” he says. “Farmers and retail salespeople like to have information and tools readily available, which is where technology, such as apps, come into play. There’s no shortage of data, but finding the time to sift through it can be challenging. Nutrien’s eKonomics app does the hard work for you, minimizing the time it takes to search for answers and maximizing your return on investment.”
