Nutrien honors NPK emergency responders during its first Emergency Response Team Appreciation Week
Matt Paynter, Emergency Response & Preparedness Manager, started his lifelong career working as a first responder in 1988. He worked as a paramedic and a firefighter in both the private and government sectors before joining Nutrien. Throughout Matt’s career, he has worked with many dedicated individuals who genuinely care about the lives of others.
"Working at Nutrien has shown me the dedication of our emergency response teams,” says Matt. “Across all sites, our Culture of Care is evident in how they support each other, simply because it's the right thing to do. It's an honor to work with Nutrien emergency responders.”
Inspired by these dedicated teams, Matt organized Nutrien’s inaugural Emergency Response Team (ERT) Appreciation Week, held from November 11-15 across all Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potash (NPK) sites, recognizing the hard work and dedication of these individuals on a company-wide level.
To commemorate the occasion, each site received a banner to display, and all 1,100 team members were presented with tote bags made from recycled fire gear. To accommodate various schedules, each site's leadership team determined the best time and day for their celebrations, with one site even hosting luncheons over three days to include all shifts.

“We honor the heart and heroism of Nutrien Trinidad’s Emergency Response Team for their courage, compassion, and selflessness,” says Joshua Kalloo, Supervisor, Safety & Emergency Response at our Trinidad Nitrogen facility. “Their professionalism during emergencies ensures the safety of our workforce and community. As we enhance our team with diversity, new skills, and support, we will continue to meet challenges with courage and dedication.”

Nutrien plans to continue dedicating a week each year to recognize and celebrate our NPK emergency responders. These individuals run towards emergencies, not away from them. They have saved lives at our sites and in the community and prevented emergencies from escalating.
“Our emergency response and mine rescue members demonstrate their skills and commitment both on and off the clock,” says Trevor Hallborg, Safety Coordinator ERT, at our Cory Potash mine. “Recently, a mine rescue member's quick response to a serious medical emergency in a public setting highlights their preparedness and dedication to saving lives beyond our sites.”

“As a former firefighter, I understand the dedication, discipline and courage required for emergency response,” says Jeremy Mollet, Director of Governance, Emergency, Analytics & Audit, Health, Safety and Environment. “Nutrien emergency responders embody these qualities daily, demonstrating professionalism through leadership, commitment and precise execution. Their value-based commitment often means personal sacrifice to protect others. I thank every team member and their families for their tireless efforts in keeping our employees, visitors, contractors and communities safe.”
