Nutrien Trinidad boosts process safety culture through leadership and collaboration
When it comes to safety, collaboration is key.
Nutrien’s Trinidad nitrogen facility, located in the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, is in good company with various organizations in the industry. Together, they comprise the Point Lisas Energy Association (PLEA), which actively supports several inter-organizational working committees, including the Process Safety Management (PSM) Committee led by Reshard Chandoo.
Reshard is a Chemical Engineering Specialist at Trinidad and the PLEA PSM Committee Chair. In both roles, he demonstrates safety leadership and collaboration by sharing process safety events, lessons learned and best practices across the industry.
“Working together with our neighboring companies is important because of the potential risks associated with having petrochemical and power generation operations in close proximity,” explains Reshard. “Impetus is required at the leadership level to support a safer industry, and I’m proud of the work we’re doing to encourage collaboration in process safety across the local industry.”
Reshard expanded on this topic during his opening remarks at the PLEA PSM Committee’s annual conference in Trinidad last year. In alignment with the theme of collaboration, members of Nutrien’s Engineering, Technology and Capital (ETC) group and Trinidad’s Technical Services team were also in attendance.

Scott Brown, Director of PSM at Nutrien, also participated in a leadership panel during the conference and discussed his experience leading the PSM Program across our Nitrogen, Phosphate and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL) operating segments.
“This was an invaluable opportunity to share lessons learned across various chemical industries in Trinidad to improve process safety performance,” says Scott. “I’m proud of how we’ve been working together at Nutrien to strengthen the safety culture of our company, community and industry.”
