Feeding the Future In Saskatchewan this Holiday Season
Nutrien is Feeding the Future, in part through high impact community partnerships designed to address food security in the communities where we live and work. We know that more than ever, people in our communities are struggling with getting healthy food on their tables.
“Our impact approach to investing means we’re looking beyond individual donations to see how we can use our influence to positively impact the food system,” explains Renee Glushyk, Manager, Community Relations and Investment at Nutrien. “Through the organizations we support in Saskatchewan alone, we’re helping hundreds of thousands of people in this province to get food on their tables. We’re grateful to our partners for working with us to identify the best ways our support can benefit their valuable work.”
While we work with our partners year-round to address food security in Saskatchewan, we give more than $450,000 this time of year alone to address the increased need during the winter months and the holiday season.
Food Banks of Saskatchewan
We’re sponsoring the Food Banks of Saskatchewan’s Feeding Holiday Cheer campaign for the 13 consecutive year. This campaign allows 36 registered food banks in the province to buy healthy food to supplement food donations.
Saskatoon Friendship Inn
“Since 2012, Nutrien’s support as the lead-sponsor of the Friendship Inn’s Fill the Plate campaign has had a significant impact for Saskatoon’s most vulnerable citizens,” explains Sandra Kary, Executive Director, Saskatoon Friendship Inn. “We see how every meal makes a difference and Nutrien’s sponsorship has helped us provision many, many meals for people who may otherwise have gone hungry. Nutrien’s generosity with this annual matching contribution of $100,000 has not only inspired community support but inspires our team to keep on cooking and serving our neighbours in need.”
“Our partnership with Nutrien has been instrumental in addressing food security in our community, especially during critical times like the holiday season,” says Laurie O'Connor, Executive Director, Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre. “Their unwavering support enables the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre to reach more individuals and families, ensuring they have access to nutritious food when it's needed most. This collaboration is a testament to the power of community and shared commitment. Together, we're not just feeding people; we're nurturing hope and building a stronger, more resilient community. We're deeply grateful for this long-standing partnership, which continuously empowers us to make a tangible, positive difference in the lives of those we serve.”
Additionally, Nutrien has contributed $50,000 to their “Light it Up” holiday campaign to help stock the shelves into the new year with food and raise a major part of their annual budget.
Regina Food Bank
As a part of the “Hampers of Hope” campaign, Nutrien is providing a matching gift of $50,000, to double the impact of the campaign and to enable the distribution of 266 hampers to individuals and families in need. Employee volunteers from our local retail team were on-hand to pack hampers on December 14. Here's what Jason Pickering, Director of Product Business Operations, Nutrien Ag Solutions, thought of the event, “Nutrien has had a long partnership with the food banks of Saskatchewan and to be able to volunteer and pack over 500 holiday meals for those in need was a very special experience. It was great to see how our Nutrien retail employees embodied the Culture of Care outside the workplace.”
In addition to our major campaign support, given our operations right across the province of Saskatchewan, we also contribute to a number of other high impact initiatives during the holidays, including:
- Care & Share Holiday Lunch Program
- CUMFI Children & Elders Christmas Parties
- Delisle Angel Tree
- Secret Santa Foundation
- St. Mary’s Christmas feast and hampers
- White Buffalo Youth Lodge Holiday Meal
